My sons always hugged me, never yelled or disrespected me and definitely listened to my advice, but peer pressure is intense and what they’ve told me since becoming adults has been tough to hear at times. They did experiment with certain drugs despite the warnings and information, and they both have had scary close calls with friends who put them in dicey situations.
My two cents is listen to your gut. If you suspect something may be going on, ask the hard questions. Make a pact that they will text you for the ride home even if they drank (or smoked!) and don’t want you to know. And as others have said, make sure they know you are a safe place to land, no matter what. You can cry in your bedroom with the door closed later!
I wouldn’t trade being a mom for the world, though. Despite the stress and worry, they bring heaps of joy every day.

This pill comment is extremely helpful given that synthetic opioids can be fatal even in tiny quantities – thanks for this.

My boys are getting older and I think about the upcoming teen years often.
