I just bought the baby his very first toy! It’s a wooden car from Finland. I know he isn’t actually born yet, but I couldn’t resist. :) It makes my heart hurt to picture him pushing this around our living room.

This is very classic! So cute. I can’t wait to see what other toys you pick for your babe.
Become super confident to your spouse. Use natural formula and experience the change.
During my childhood i also liked different types of toys, in those i had 2-3 wooden boats and houses. They are so precious to a baby…:)
The toy car made is just too good, the kids are definitely going to love it.
I loved the toy really as it included a lot of craftsmanship. I liked your post too.
Thank you Joanna for sharing this post. I remember, during my childhood i also liked different types of toys, in those i had 2-3 wooden boats and houses. well, babies need toys i believe, regardless of their age. :)

I just read this post for the first time today! and was excited because I recently bought a wooden truck for my (first) nephew (his due date isn’t for another 4 weeks). I live down in Durham NC and found the truck at our local 4th of July festival. An older man, probably in his late 70’s, from Greensboro NC had a tent set up where he was selling all of these hand carved wooden cars, trains, plains… He had given out all of his business cards but I am determined to track him down. I would love to get baby Oliver the train cars.
Adorable first toy!
Be careful to wait until he’s older because uncoordinated little hands can hit their head instead.
Joanna, Santa has those little cars in stock. I know this because it was the only thing he left for Jennifer Colleen (my first baby) on her first Christmas. Thirty-five years later, I still have it. All the best to you and Alex and Baby (you know me as Mrs. Brown, Andie’s Mom.)
awww this is so cute!
my little boys have the very same one – and it’s the same one my brothers and I had when we were younger. My mom saved it these 30+ years.
Boys are awesome. You’re going to love it!
haha, jill, you might be right :)
So sweet, Jo! I find it physically impossible to walk into a Baby Gap and not come out with at least three things for Devon. She has so many clothes she’s yet to even wear, but I just can’t seem to help myself!
I love this as I am a Finn! Good choice :) Greetings to you Johanna and the baby from the very wintery Finland! :)
little boys LOVE cars, in every material, every language, and for a long time! good choice!
This is such a sweet toy. I’m sure he’ll love it! My younger brother LOVED cars as a baby :]
I thought the cute duck Alex gave you for Christmas was the baby’s first toy… :)
Ahhhh. so sweet! You will always remember this first toy. Always.
I remember buying Alexander a small blue rattle when Evan and I were in Paris (big surprise, huh). I’m all warm and fuzzy just thinking about it.
this is absolutely adorable!
What a sweet sentiment. Your little baby is going to be so loved (and have awesome toys)…
So adorable!!!!!!!!!!
so cute! wooden cars were the first things i bought for my son while i was pregnant too.
That does it. You’re already the coolest mom on the planet. I love that you eschewed brand names for something classically cool and European.
And good for you for keeping the name a secret. People will find out soon enough, so why not keep it as something special and private that only you and your hubby know about in the meantime?
perfect. my year old son maxilium has a small crew of wooden vehicles that he’s just starting to appreciate. tho i’ve been loving having them around idle too. check out the book “wonder bear” by tao nyeu. it was the first i bought especially for him and “read” whilst still womb’d.
I know what you mean, I frequently want to buy toys and I’m not even close to pregnant. They’re too cute to resist.
Perfection. He will love it and so will you. One of those that you will probably save for his lifetime.
This is so sweet! And it is such a classic toy. This is definitely something he will keep with him for years and pass on to his family!
My husband would approve that the toy is made of wood. He swears when we start a family the only toys his kid will play with will be natural. Cute car :)
so so so cute! it’s the perfect first toy- so timeless. LOVE.
Adorable! He’ll love it!
It doesn’t matter if he’s not born yet. My sisters and I were buying toys for our youngest sister before she was born. You cannot resist the overwhelming urge to pamper your baby.
Trust me, you’ve shown plenty of restraint if this is the first toy hehe I’m pretty sure I’d have the baby’s nursery stocked full of clothes and toys the day I found out I was pregnant lol
This is so sweet! I love it!
So sweet! To go along with it, I’d recommend ‘Cars and Trucks and Things That Go’ by Richard Scarry. It was my brother’s very favorite book when he was little!
Adorable! I love that it’s wooden … sort of rustic, and beautifully simplistic – makes a lovely, functional toy!!
So sweet, Joanna!
yes! love the classic wooden toys! there is a shop in vancouver that only sells wooden toys – so great. it will probably last longer too. :) they are made so much better than plastic ones.
I want to buy our kids mostly wooden and cloth toys. This is adorable!
so adorable! good choice on a simple toy that’s not electronic or mass-produced. xo
I love that! A friend of mine owns a store in Brooklyn that is adorable and has a lot of fun things like that. If you have never been there, I really think you’d like it. http://www.blueribbongeneralstore.net/index.shtml?Screen=USL&Code=index
so precious. your sentiments are so beautiful! congrats on the baby. he is coming into a very stylish world of yours :).
I love you for not going to walmart and buying some cheap, made in China..it will be in the trash in one month, kind of toy. Well done mom-to -be!
i adore adore adore this!!!!
Very precious!
Well … we’ll wait! XD
I’m excited for you
kostas is AWESOME!!! i love that name. and nicole, that is so crazy about your parents’ neighbor! :)
Gorgeous! Congrats! You’ll always have a little story to tell you baby about this car… so sweet!
That is so adorable! When I have kids, these are the types of toys I want them to have. I think my rule for friends and family will be “If it requires batteries, please don’t buy it for my child.” ;-)
Joanna that is the cutest. Our little guy just started making car noises as he pushes his wooden car around-it’s the best. We too kept his name a secret until he was born. Then surprised everyone with Kostas.
that’s the cutest thing ever.
Oh, so sweet. I know he’ll like eletronic things someday, but his parisian side (mommy side) won’t let him lose his roots ;)
it’s darling :)
This is precious! Just perfect for a little boy Jo, can’t wait to hear the name!!
You are so cute, Joanna! What a lucky little guy. He will have lots of fun with that car!
Oh, and YES – keep your baby name guarded. When I was in my mom’s belly, my mom and dad named me Nicole Marie. They revealed my name to friends/family, and a pregnant neighbor-friend named her daughter Marie Nicole. WEIRD!
xoxo.
I grew up with playing with a set of cars like that! Beautiful. I’m so excited for you.
aww so you are having a boy. What a fun toy. When I was pregnant I didn’t know yet if I was having a boy or girl but I saw this adorable yellow teddy bear. I had to buy it, it called my name..
