Have seen an Instagram reel: it’s finally winter when the girlies dress like football(soccer) managers. And yes, that’s the vibe. We’re staying warm, occasionally yelling at the referee and cannot lose hope even if a game goes badly.
I found these bags charms interesting !
Ha ha this is totally me. I’ve been pairing my long wool camel coat with joggers and tennies so it won’t look quite so serious.
Let’s bring back the pink pussy beanies!!
I have no use for coats that don’t clear my rear end. From rain jackets to puffy vests to my 2 winter coats – all of them at least cover my bum and the winter coats hit mid calf. Life is too short for a cold butt.
This!!!
I bought a trench coat from Madewell and I live in LA where it is not necessary but I love it!
Love winter looks! Still summer where I am and I have to say I always look forward to
Winter clothes as I just love coats!
My version of the triangle scarf is a large silk square folded, and worn the other way around. Point in the back, loosely tied in front. Large enough that it still keeps your neck warm with your coat on. Flattering over sweaters when you take the coat off.
anybody have a suggestion for ~cute~ warm slippers? i don’t quite know what i’m looking for, but something that feels more…elevated? than glerups, but still warm and comfy. i have no clue if what i’m looking for exists.
Perhaps check out Freedom Moses slippers?

Haflingers
I got the fluffy Boston clogs from Birkenstock at the start of the pandemic to have as slippers. Never looked back! 5 years on, still going strong!
Oooh Freedom Moses looks like what I’ve been searching for! Thank you!!
I have a pair of Laurentian chief moccasins that I’ve had for more than 10 years and I love them – not cheap but both cozy, sturdy, and beautiful. The website doesn’t say one way or the other but according to the internet they are an Indigenous owned business: https://laurentianchief.com/en/?srsltid=AfmBOooz0J2YCr5K5XD-ydE_8W5meimLuvxqUSzNnnwnSUiUATmNqni9
Annd then I found another post that said Laurentian chief employs some Indigenous artisans but they aren’t Indigenous owned, sigh. So maybe not? The fact they don’t say on their website makes me lean that way 🧐. So maybe, just search out a local maker in your area.
The Moses slides look ahmazing! I live in NC and live in sandals in the summer, these look perfect.
So many colors!
Check out Luvons!

I got my triangle scarf from Free People and LOVE it. It’s blue w/ a fun green stripe. I’m looking for a bright red one though – no stripe. Just red. Any one have good leads? Under $50 preferable.
perfect Andreea!! Thank you! CoJ comments section to the rescue
Aesthetically, I love a long serious coat (currently eyeing a Windsor Heritage Mac at Boden), but as a v. v. relaxed northern californian, I just can’t imagine it in the rotation. It’s for my other, parallel universe life in London.
Same with me and a trench!! Here in NC, it just doesn’t work. Our fall and spring are too warm for it and aesthetically we are too laid back for it.
BUT last winter I started traveling to Toronto every other week. I needed a trench for the chill and rain in the early spring! I bought one from Sezane and took it on ONE trip, and while it was amazing while there, it was really annoying to travel on the plane with. And then I quit that job so no more cool rainy city traveling.
Oh well! At least I feel a bit smug to have the trench in my closet. No regrets.
“This is immaculate” is 100% the vibe when I pulled one of those rainbow Gap Kids sweaters from 2004, in mint condition. I used to sell them, in high school, and now my daughter has one of their own — cue “Sk8er Boi” by Avril Lavigne!
My actual favourite winter fashion trend though is a summer top/dress layered over a turtleneck, with my reversible faux fur/suede vest. Too much? I don’t care 😜
Oh, I absolutely remember that sweater. Score for your daughter!! And the outfit? What I’m picturing feels a bit, what we used to call, “boho”. I understand that’s still scary term for some, but I, also, don’t care, ha!
Kate! I am here for your outfit and for that sweater! What a find!
My husband picked out a Farm Rio rain jacket for me that is super long and it’s vibrant pattern is the best for livening up gloomy rainy days!
I do not get the triangle scarf fad. I think the triangle scarf is a niche look to pull off, and unless you can pull off country or tuxedo glam, instead frumpy old 80s vibes it will be.
I love a good frumpy old 80s vibe
I don’t think it’s frumpy at all! I think it’s kind of chic in a Parisian way :) Or like Betty Draper!
Hard disagree, triangle scarves seem ‘Seattle in the 90’s’ vibe, which to me is the height of cool.
Or, yes, Parisian.
Tho I don’t mind a frumpy 80,s vibe either.
I am so curious – can you link me to Seattle 90s look. I googled but did not get any triangle scarves… Lots of flannelettes shirts and striped t-shirt (ah nirvana)… I do think the triangle scarf can look cool, but the way I am seeing on people like Jamie Beck is just so blah…. she’s usually so stylish. But the best thing is who cares what people think, we all have our own flare. I love a scarf, but the triangle one is something I haven’t worked out how to wrangle on me. I think if you have big boobs it is harder to pull off. – you know now I am totally wanting to pull out all my scarves (seriously I have trillions because I kept all of my Nans and my mums and I buy them for myself – it is a problem!) and work out how to do the triangle! If anyone cares to post links to it being done well I am up for the challenge. I like having my mind changed….
I don’t get it either, but I don’t think it looks frumpy, it just looks like nothing to me? But obviously everyone should do what feels fun to them. I will be ta team blanket scarf forever.
These triangle scarfs are definitely tempting me…..
“are we doing this?” lol. Grace Farris gets me.
I have also thought this recently!
I did not know “we” were doing this tiny scarf thing. Although the other day I had my ear warmer pulled down to my neck (because, ya know, my ears warmed up) and someone complimented me on my scarf. I went with it, but I thought it was odd. Now I see what happened, lol.
Grace Farris, keeping me in the loop.
Lol, I literally had the same thought about bag charms when I saw them on Zara’s website yesterday.
As a permanently breton-striped, mom-jeaned, chunky-booted, bun-headed round lady, the serious long coat is my only winter silhouette-friendly nod to leanness.
I was in NYC a few weeks ago and everyone was wearing giant and brightly-colored fuzzy scarves over their down jacket. I bought one from a street vendor and it made for a perfect souvenir!
I keep my home thermostat at 59 and am mostly still wearing sandals. It’s presently 29 degrees where I live. I do occasionally throw on a hoodie outside. If I turn the heat up 1 degree, in a few minutes I’m screaming “omg I’m roasting, turn the heat down!” My husband never says a word but he does bundle up in the house. So none of these cute winter items for me. :( Cute though ! Always love these comics. <3
Seeing lots of sweatshirts with little touches of personalized embroidery!
In college I had a long vintage swing coat made of Harris tweed. Loved it. Kept me warm and made me feel like a plucky heroine in a historical novel. :-)
I would be very into all of these were it not for the fact that it is currently nearly 80 degrees Fahrenheit where I live (26 Celsius for our international friends). I have a t-shirt and sandals on today, lol. For those who are jealous of my warm weather, let it be known that in a few short months I will have to take multiple showers a day for the sweatiness of it all.
Same! We have a high of 75 in my part of Alabama tomorrow. Im wondering if I need to go ahead and put my winter sweaters up.
Yes, same. 85 this week. There’s about 20 days of cold enough weather for a coat/sweater and scarf.
Quickly will turn to laser sun rays in about 2 months.
After a couple of especially brutal face-freezings a few winters ago I thought I’d give a balaclava a try, like hey, Pussy Riot look great in them, right? I looked like Gumby’s spinster aunt.
Ha, ha!! From personal experience, and this might sound like a bit much, but it might be the ‘cut of the balaclava’, that resulted in Gumby vibes? I always assumed they were all kind of the same, like socks & [tbh I rarely gave them much thought at all] but there are different ‘cuts’ and you may find one that is more flattering- give it a go!
Gumby’s spinster aunt! I hope you mean that in a good way, because I love the sound of that!
Lauren O wins the internet again! 😂
Def Outfitted! Quince Featherless Quilted Long Puffer Jacket ala CofJ rec, OldN flannel stripped scarf, Merry People boots, wool socks, knitted cap. Not enough chapped stick on the planet but I try and hand cream in every sak. Brrrr…Spring I see you peeking!
Oh I have been eying Merry People. Do you like them??
Britt-love them. Comfy, easy to clean, long lasting. Great color selection (mine are green) and the merry folks working there are super lovely. I love a slip in boot!
Merry People boots didn’t work for me- I’m a 10W and neither the 10 nor 11 fit, and I found the ankles stiff. However- I loved the experience of shopping with them and would try again if they made a wide size! Customer service was excellent.
Good catch ABESHA1, they do run narrower than leather. I wear a wool ankle sock to fill the ankle space creating a comfortable fit but my ankles/toe box are small. (Size 6). If you send an outline of your feet, the folks can recommend sizing more accurately. Even small narrow footed gals like me run into sizing issues.
Good to know. Thanks yall!
Idk about the bag charms because I rarely carry a pretty purse but I have a big long coat (shout out Red Sky Clothing in Canada) and I might knit myself one of those little triangles. I already have some big triangles (i.e. shawls) that I wear that way though…
Perpetually cold, so teddy jackets, warm boots, colorful sweaters, loud earrings and lipstick, and pull on black dress pants over here.
This sounds so fun and cozy! Any warm boot favorites? I’m always cold in the winter.
Kristina- I found a brand new pair of BearPaw boots at the local thrift recently and my feet have never been warmer. I live in a place with quite chilly winters (it can be below zero at night, single digits during the day) and these haven’t failed me yet. They’re the ridiculously furry ones and you can find them on ebay. Highly recommend!
uggs also sell sheepskin shoe soles that will go in any shoe. I got to keep all my winter boots when i moved to WI from DC with these and not have my toes fall off. I liked that i didnt have to buy an entire new set of boots.
Including trying fun nail polish and watching a bunch of TV without feeling weird about it.
This week, I was walking down the street with my friend when...
